Free Mobile Pharmacy Event to Siler City on June 1

NC MedAssist will hold a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in Siler City on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 9 AM to 2 PM. . The event, which is in collaboration with Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, is open to any low-income individual or family needing free health screenings, education and free over-the-counter medications. The event will be held at the National Guard Armory located at 801 Alston Bridge Road in Siler City.  Identification is not required to participate.

“We are always excited to work with our partners at NC MedAssist to bring valuable events to our communities,” said Cardinal Innovations CEO Trey Sutten. “The Mobile Free Pharmacy event is an opportunity for us to make an impact on the health and wellness of the people of Chatham County. We look forward to helping provide health resources and education to individuals and families in this community.”

Individuals will receive up to up to 10 medicine cabinet items for their family/home. Additionally, participants will receive other free healthcare services, such as information on NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program and community health resources. NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.

The event is completely volunteer run and we are in great need of more volunteers to help the day of and the day before to set up.  See the box at the right for more info.

“NC MedAssist is excited to work with Cardinal Innovations and all of our partners to give back to our neighbors in need,” stated CEO Lori Giang. “Through our collaboration we are able to reach more and more individuals and educate them on our free resources. No one should go without medicine and this program is enabling us to reach those who are unaware of our free medications.”

There are currently more than 3,700 people in Chatham County that live below the Federal Poverty Level and do not qualify for insurance. Last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed over $48 million in free prescription medication statewide. Nanjing Impression: An Exhibition of Chinese Performance Arts

pexels-photo-932261.jpegPITTSBORO — “Nanjing Impression: An Exhibition of Chinese Performance Arts” will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center in Pittsboro. The event is presented by Central Carolina Community College’s Confucius Classroom. Admission to the show is free.

The performance is part of an ongoing series of Chinese cultural performances and exhibitions presented through the college’s Confucius Classroom. The Classroom is a partnership with North Carolina State University’s Confucius Institute, which works with Hanban — the Chinese education ministry — to promote an understanding and appreciation of Chinese language and culture.

In 2009, CCCC was the first community college in the nation to establish a Confucius Classroom.

“Our Confucius Classroom enables the college to prepare our students for living and working in a global economy,” said CCCC President T. Eston Marchant. “It helps link our central North Carolina communities, governments, and businesses to China. Being able to host these superb performances is a major cultural bonus that connects the people of our nations in a very positive way.”
