The Paragraph: Topic Sentence and Supporting Sentences

In English, each paragraph should be about only one main idea. The main idea is what the paragraph is about. All the sentences in the paragraph should be about the main idea. If a sentence is not about the main idea, the sentence is irrelevant.

The topic sentence tells us the main idea in the paragraph. All of the other sentences or “supporting sentences” should always be relevant to the main idea of the paragraph. Supporting sentences help the reader understand the main idea by giving more information about it. What would be the supporting sentences of the paragraph above after your editing?

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
